    {x^2 – 2x – 3}/{x^2 + 2x + 1} (x \ne -1)
    = {x^2 + x – 3x – 3}/{(x + 1)^2}
    = {x.(x + 1) – 3.(x + 1)}/{(x + 1)^2}
    = {(x + 1).(x – 3)}/{(x + 1).(x + 1)}
    =  {\cancel{(x + 1)}.(x – 3)}/{\cancel{(x + 1)}.(x + 1)}
    = {x – 3}/{x + 1} (1)
    Ta có:
    3x – 1 = 0
    ↔ 3x = 1
    ↔ x = 1/3
    Thay x = 1/3 vào (1) ta được:
    {x – 3}/{x + 1}
    = $\dfrac{\dfrac{1}{3} – 3}{\dfrac{1}{3} + 1}$
    = $\dfrac{\dfrac{-8}{3}}{(\dfrac{4}{3})}$
    = -2
    Vậy giá trị của biểu thức bằng -2 tại x = 1/3
