    $a) (x + 4)^2 – (x + 1)( x- 1) = 16$
    $⇔(x^2+8x+16) – (x^2-1) = 16$
    $⇔x^2+8x+16 – x^2+1 = 16$
    $⇔8x+17= 16$
    $⇔8x=-1$
    $⇔x=\dfrac{-1}{8}$
    $b) (x – 2)^3 – (x – 3)(x^2 + 3x + 9) +6(x + 1)^2 = 49$
    $⇔(x^3-6x^2+12x-8) – (x^3 –27) +6(x^2+2x+1) = 49$
    $⇔x^3-6x^2+12x-8–x^3+27+6x^2+12x+6= 49$
    $⇔24x+25= 49$
    $⇔24x=24$
    $⇔x=1$
