    a) 3x – ( – 17 ) = 14
    ⇔    3x  +  17   =  14 ( vì có hai dấu  ” – ” )
    ⇔     3x             = 14 – 17 
    ⇔   3x             = – 3
    ⇔    x               = – 3 : 3
    ⇔  x                = -1
    b) ( x + 9 ) . ( x – 2 )        = 10
    ⇔ x ( x – 2 ) + 9 ( x – 2 )      = 10 ( nhân đa thức với đa thức )
    ⇔ $x^{2}$ – 2x + 9x – 18    = 10
    ⇔ ( $x^{2}$ – 2x – 9x ) – 18 = 10
    ⇔ x ( x – 2 – 9 )                    = 10 + 18 
    ⇔ x ( x – 11 )                       = 28
    ⇔ x ( x – 11 ) – 28                = 0
    ⇔ \(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x=0\\x-11=0\\-28=0\end{array} \right.\)
    ⇔ \(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x=0\\x=11\\-28 = 0 ( vô lý)\end{array} \right.\)    
    Vậy x ∈  { 0 ; 11 }
    c) ( x + 5 ) . ( x – 7 ) = 0
    ⇔\(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x+5=0\\x-7=0\end{array} \right.\) 
    ⇔\(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x=-5\\x=7\end{array} \right.\) 
    Vậy x ∈ { -5 ; 7 }
    d) 12 + 2x = 3 ( x – 7 )
    ⇔ 12 + 2x = 3x – 21
    ⇔ 2x – 3x  = -21 – 12
    ⇔ -x         = – 33
    ⇔ x          = 33
    e ) 2$x^{2}$  – 1 = 49
    ⇔ 2$x^{2}$       = 49 + 1
    ⇔ 2$x^{2}$       = 50
    ⇔ $x^{2}$         = 50 : 2
    ⇔ $x^{2}$          = 25
    ⇔ $x^{2}$          = $5^{2}$  ( vì 25 = $5^{2}$  )
    ⇒ x                      = 5
