    x + 5 – 11 = 31 – 48
    => x + 5 – 11 = -17
    => x + 5 = (-17) + 11
    => x + 5 = -6
    => x = (-6) – 5
    => x = -11

    21 + (-21 + x) = 252 – (25 + 252)
    => 21 + (-21 + x) = 252 – 277
    => 21 + (-21 + x) = -25
    => -21 + x = (-25) – 21
    => -21 + x = -46
    => x = (-46) – (-21)
    => x = -25
