    x + 12 – 13 = 55
    x + 12         = 55 + 13
    x + 12         = 68
    x                 = 68 – 12
    x                 = 66
    55 – 12 – x = 17
        43  –  x  = 17
                  x  =  43 – 17
                  x  = 26
