    Lời giải và giải thích chi tiết:
    a)
    |x – 1| – 2 = 0
    ⇔ |x – 1| = 2
    ⇒ \(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x – 1 = 2\\x – 1 = -2\end{array} \right.\) 
    ⇒ \(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x = 3\\x = -1\end{array} \right.\) 
    Vậy   S = {3 ; -1}
    b)
    x – \sqrt{2x + 7} = -2    (Đk  :  x ≥ -7/2)
    ⇔ x + 2 = \sqrt{2x + 7}
    ⇒ 2x + 7 = (x + 2)^2
    ⇔ 2x + 7 = x^2 + 4x + 4
    ⇔ x^2 + 2x – 3 = 0
    ⇔ x^2 – x + 3x – 3 = 0
    ⇔ x(x – 1) + 3(x – 1) = 0
    ⇔ (x – 1)(x + 3) = 0
    ⇒ \(\left[ \begin{array}{l}x=1(tm)\\x=-3     (loại)\end{array} \right.\) 
    Vậy  x = 1
