    x : y = 3 : 5⇒ $\dfrac{x}{y}$ = $\dfrac{3}{5}$
    $\text{Ta lập được tỉ lệ thức như sau:}$
    $\dfrac{x}{3}$ = $\dfrac{y}{5}$
    $\text{Theo đề bài ta có: }$
    $\dfrac{x}{3}$ = $\dfrac{y}{5}$ và y-x=-16
    $\text{Áp dụng tính chất của dãy tỉ số bằng nhau.}$
    $\dfrac{x}{3}$ = $\dfrac{y}{5}$ = $\dfrac{y-x}{5-3}$ = $\dfrac{-16}{2}$ = -8
    $\text{⇒ $\dfrac{x}{3}$ = -8 ⇒ x = (-8).3 = -24}$
    $\text{⇒$\dfrac{y}{5}$ = -8 ⇒ y = (-8).5 = -40}$
    $\text{Vậy x = -24 và y = -40}$

    x : y = 3/5 và y- x = -16
    => x/3 = y/5 và y – x = -16
    Áp dụng tính chất của dãy tỉ số bằng nhau ta được:
    x/3 = y/5 = (y-x)/(5-3) = (-16)/2 = -8
    => x = (-8) . 3 = -24
    y = (-8) . 5 = -40
    Vậy x = -24 và y = -40
