Theo định lí viete ta có:
$x _{1} x _{2} = m + 1 \\ x _{1} + x _{2} = 4$
Ta có:
$ x _{1} ^ 2 + x _{2} ^ 2 – 4 x _{1} x _{2} \\= (x _{1} + x _{2} ) ^ 2 – 2 x _{1} x _{2} – 4 x _{1} x _{2} \\= (x _{1} + x _{2} ) ^ 2 – 6 x _{1} x _{2} $
Suy ra:
$ 4 ^ 2 – 6 (m + 1) = 22 \\\Leftrightarrow m = – 2$
Vậy m = – 2
