    $(\sqrt{6+4\sqrt{2}})+(\sqrt{6-4\sqrt{2}})$
    $=(\sqrt{(\sqrt{2})^2+2.\sqrt{2}.2+2^2})+(\sqrt{(\sqrt{2})^2-2.\sqrt{2}.2+2^2})$
    $=\sqrt{(\sqrt{2}+2)^2}+\sqrt{(\sqrt{2}-2)^2}$
    $=|\sqrt{2}+2|+|\sqrt{2}-2|$
    $=(\sqrt{2}+2)+(2-\sqrt{2})$
    $=\sqrt{2}+2+2-\sqrt{2}$
    $=4$
